Water basin reports

These reports are based upon a sample framework of goals, objectives and indicators in Preparing for Water Plan 2000. They were prepared by basin teams.

Reports attempt to:

  • List suggested changes to the draft goals, objectives and environmental indicators and rationale for changes.
  • List recommended behavior indicators or pressures with rationale for inclusion. Examples include: gallons of water used annually, tons of nitrogen fertilizer used annually and percent of cropland eroding above tolerance levels.
  • List targets
  • For suggested indicators, describe how to measure trends and who would do the measuring
  • Explain the process used to reach local water planning and other interests and how the team plans to work with these interests in the future. Indicate if goals, objectives and indicators are coming from existing plans or if the team expects them to be incorporated into future plans.

Basin teams worked from October 1999 through February 2002 to complete these reports. The basin teams` responses were compiled in basin reports which shaped Minnesota Watermarks: Gauging the Flow of Progress 2000-2010 submitted to the legislature September 2000.
